Observation Terms Explanation
Sky Condition/weather: Description of the observed level of cloud cover and/or precipitation type. Indicated by an icon and a text description.
Temperature: The temperature reported at the time of the last observation, in degrees Fahrenheit (degrees Celsius).
Humidity: The ratio of the actual moisture content of the air at a specific temperature to the maximum amount that the air could hold at that temperature.
Wind Speed: Wind direction and sustained wind speed in miles per hour. G (Gusts) are a sudden brief increase in wind speed.
Barometer: The atmospheric pressure measured in inches of mercury (millibars). High pressure usually means good weather, while low pressure usually indicates bad weather.
Dewpoint: The temperature at which the air will hold the maximum amount of moisture. When the temperature cools to the dewpoint, the air becomes saturated and fog, or dew or frost can occur.
Heat Index: The temperature that it feels like outside to people and animals based on actual temperature and humidity.
Wind Chill: The temperature that it feels like outside to people and animals based on actual temperature and wind speed. A new Wind Chill Temperature Index was issued by the National Weather Service and the Meteorological Services of Canada beginning with the 2001-2002 winter season and was the first significant change to the 1945 Siple and Passel Index.
