The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has adopted Coordinated Universal Time (abbreviated UTC) as the standard time zone for use in reporting of all meteorological data. Based on the 0° longitude (Greenwich) meridian, it is determined using highly precise atomic clocks. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is an obsolete term. For practical purposes it is used today interchangeably with UTC.
To convert UTC to
Eastern Standard Time subtract 5 hours
Eastern Daylight Time subtract 4 hours
Atlantic Standard Time subtract 4 hours
Atlantic Daylight Time subtract 3 hours
The clocks below, linked to the U.S. Naval Observatory show the actual Eastern and UTC times.

Times given in UTC and UT are usually in terms of a 24-hour clock. 13:20 (1320) would be 1:20 p.m. Sometimes a Z (for Zulu) is appended to a time to indicate UT, as in 1320Z.
